Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizen or permanent resident pursuing a Ph.D.
  • interested in teaching and/or research careers in Civil Infrastructure Engineering
**Expenses covered:
  • Books, laboratory materials and supplies
  • Membership fees for professional societies
  • Computer hardware, project specific software and other equipment prorated by the length of the student’s fellowship
  • Travel expenditures and conference registration fees for Fellows to participate in professional meetings
  • Domestic and international travel per diem allowances and registration fees for participation in conferences and educational activities
  • Expenses incurred in the research
  • Reproduction and publication costs of thesis and teaching portfolios
  • Educational fees and tuition

The program is designed to support graduate students pursuing specific high‐need fields of study. The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program awards grants to postsecondary institutions to provide scholarships to students that demonstrate superior academic ability and a high degree of financial need.
